An Apple A Day

Yesterday one of my students from this country came in with a special gift. She was really excited to reveal to me a bright, shiney, red apple. She said that every teacher in America has one of these on their desks and she thought it was time I did as well. I asked her if I could eat it and she quickly responded, "NO! It is for your desk."

While I'm not so into other "teacher" stuff (i.e. "ABC" vests and special jumpers), I now have a new appreciation for the apple. I don't know how the tradition got started or why it has lasted this long, but I'm grateful. For, with one look at that simple object, a complex range of emotions stems forth. I know without a doubt that I am loved...appreciated... and thought of beyond the classroom setting.

I wish I could describe in words what a precious thing it is to be loved by a child--and having that feeling multiplied by 8 is a daunting task. Suffice it to say...I am blessed. And, today, more than others, I realize that.

Don't worry friends....the apples I receive will remain on my desk (and in my heart), and far, far away from my clothing. :-)

I guess I'll have to return the teddy bear/school house sweater sets I found at the nearest Christopher Banks store for you. Are you sure you can't even wear a cute denim jumper with apple buttons on it? =)

You girls are too funny!
I don't think the postal services here accept things from Christopher Banks...GAP, on the other hand, is a different story! :-)

Thanks for the thoughts though!
