OK, men, if you are still reading this, don't say I didn't warn you!
So I just had the funniest conversation with one of my national (female) co-workers.
I was walking back up the stairs to my office after talking with a couple of them, when I hear, "L, Do you have any good things?" "Good things?" I replied. "Yes, good things," she said while motioning to her abdominal area. "For females?" I said. "Yes," she responded.
Never in my life have I thought of feminine hygiene products as "good things" but I guess that's what they're called over here. :) It made me smile.
Afterwards, she asked me what I called them in English and then we proceeded to have a conversation about the personal woes of the female monthly visitor. We joked about PMS and how our backs hurt or how we get emotional. I told her sometimes I find it easy to cry. She said sometimes she likes to fight. We carried on with this conversation for about 5 minutes and afterwards I thought what a funny, bonding moment I just had.
Isn't it interesting how some things are the same...no matter geography or age?

Ironic that it would be a posting about feminine products that would signal my entry back into your life! Hello there my long lost friend! Still in Nam but may be moving in August to...UAE. More later!
I am so happy to hear that you are bonding with your coworkers on such deep levels! :)
Never again will I ignore such a warning to the male gender.
Meli!!! Oh my goodness! I miss you! It "is" funny that this would be the post you would read! :)
So UAE...seriously???? That would make me sooo incredibly happy! I would actually get to see you again...since it seems I'll never get the chance to return to 'Nam and we are never in the States at the same time.
Please write and tell me more!
NOEL--Funny, huh? The ladies here NEVER talk about that stuff. I think I'm finally "in." :)
Bearded--Did I not warn you??? Sorry!
Ah, yes our common bond....except for the fact that they call them "good things." Even after reading Judy Blume as a kid, I could never accept the fact that this is a good or exciting experience. Guess this means I'm a glass half empty kind of person, doesn't it?
Imagine life without them...that would be a very BAD THING. From that perspective, I'd say your new friend was right on with her translation of "the products".
Miss you...
A
PS I want you to know just how deeply you have impacted my level of "coolness" lately. I now have an iPod (can you even believe it??!!??) I even have some cool music on there - some very much inspired by you! AND...my scrapbook pages are much more of a mixture of Simple Scrapbooks and Creative Keepsakes these days. (The CK is thanks to you!) Not just the Simple, clean looks. A little more artsy. Granted, I will never reach your level of cool...but I have made some strides!
A--You have already surpassed my level of "cool!" You always have!
And seriously, I can't wait to come and scrapbook with you in the future...the far-off future. :)
