Blank....

That's me, as of late.

OK, not really, but I haven't felt like posting what's really been happening in my mind. So instead you get posts like the previous one or like the one I'm about to write now...

RANDOMS:
**I watched Dancing With The Stars tonight. I may or may not be addicted simply from viewing one episode. (How does this happen to me?)

Anyway, A & K, I don't know if you girls caught it, but I was totally taken back to our CHS days. (I think you were both in show choir the same time I was? I don't even remember the year! Oh well.)

So remember when that guy from Nashville came to teach us our songs and those dance numbers? It was a Gloria Estefan mix. The guy was really cute. (Probably gay) ...We all danced long hours into the night singing One, Two, Three, Four...Come on baby, say you love me....Five, Six, Seven tiiimes. ...We were so cool. (NOT)...Good times. Good times.

**In a week and one day I will be headed back over to CA for a few weeks. As my excitement grows, my pocketbook seems to be shrinking. (It's just too fun not to buy things for people when I know even the smallest gift is greatly appreciated. --Sorry, Jtho, no guy was walking around calling your name today!)

**I'd like to give a shout out to my most amazing friend, Trix...and a big CONGRATS on selling her house!!! Does this mean we won't be needing a bunk bed at the Gaffs?

**Confessional--I've started tanning. (PLEASE don't lecture me on the dangers!...And Jenni, I'm blaming you for this! ;)...So the funny part of this whole scenario, is that I'm white. I'm very white. (Although I do tan pretty well for my complexion! ;)

So you can imagine my surprise, when last night (being my 3rd time in), the girl was programming the bed and without an ounce of hesitation said, "15 minutes right?" HAAAAAA!! I laughed and told her, "Umm, no. How about 5?" She was a little taken back, but reprogrammed in the new number and went back to her cleaning duties.

Now, do I LOOK like I could lay in the tanning bed for 15 minutes???? ...I don't think so.

Anyway, this really wasn't worth your reading time, so I'm going to quit rambling and just go to bed. I hope tomorrow I'll have something deep and worthwhile to share.

Good night....

I have VERY vivid memories of the Gloria Estefan remix. What a crack-up!! (Come one shake your body baby do that conga...know you can't control yourself any longer!)
I think I could probably even dance a little bit of it to this day. And yes...I'm pretty sure he was gay.

There are three subjects I wish to cover here: barista boys, country music, and politics.

BARISTA BOYS…You were meant to meet one. It’s that simple. I’m done with the ‘Buck’s Boy comments.

COUNTRY MUSIC RULES! How can you not listen to country music? As Trace Adkins explains, they’re “songs about ME!” I figured you’d be a Sara Evans fan (“Suds in the Bucket”) because she was on that show where they dance to win a trophy. My favorite love song of all time, Brad Paisley’s “Fishing Song”, is of the country genre…what more could you ask for?!

NOT A FAN OF FIGHTS…What about hockey? Seriously, what’s your take on the use of force to stop such evils as the Nazis or remove regimes such as the Taliban? Are you a pacifist? It’s ok if you are, I’m just curious.

Here are my 3 responses:

BARISTA BOYS...I'm with you. Although I'm not sure if they have those in Central Asia. :)

COUNTRY MUSIC...You can, in no way, convince me that this type of music "rules." I have family and friends that love it. I've tried. It's just not there for me. And although Sara Evans may have been on "Dancing with the Stars," I haven't watched it this season, nor have I heard her "Suds in the Bucket" song.

Sorry to disappoint you. I'm pretty sure this will never change for me.

LOVER NOT A FIGHTER...That's me.
I guess fighting in hockey has its place, but as I've mentioned before, I've watched hockey only a few times.

And as for me personally, most people would probably label me a pacifist. I'm not sure I'm ready for a label, but then again, I'm not sure I'll ever be ready. I'm confident this will be something I will wrestle with for the remainder of my days on this earth.

I have to agree with my friend Thom who said,

"While the utilitarian asks how ethical positions like pacifism can be moral in a world full of Hitlers and Husseins, the Christian responds that the world is not run by such men but by God, the same God who put the church in a world full of Hitlers and Husseins in order to demonstrate what a world without Hitlers and Husseins might look like."

Furthermore, to say that our (the US gov't's) use of force "removed" the Taliban is, what I believe, a misconception and misnomer. They are still present, visible and regaining power daily.

So I'll leave it at that for now. The Cards are on and I need to focus on the game. I'm open to thoughts, comments, critiques.

COUNTRY MUSIC...Dixie Chicks count. I was being a bit facetious as I didn't think of you as the country music type (even if I am). Still, you should give "Suds in the Bucket" a listen and check out the lyrics to the "Fishing Song".

I am picky with my country music.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE...In an ideal world, I'm a pacificist. This not being such, I am not (although I still prefer it as an ideology).

This past summer, I was shocked to hear of the Taliban taking a couple of towns in the south (if only for a matter of days). I was well aware that they were regrouping and even strengthening, but I did not think they were ready to attempt such an act.

I am concerned, deeply so, that we have missed an opportunity to change the hearts and minds in one of the darkest corners of the globe. I am thankful for individuals, such as yourself, who have heeded the call to serve. But I am afraid of the world becoming distracted and ignoring this land as it slips into an abyss from which it emerged only 5 years ago.

When I spoke of the Taliban being "removed", it was in reference to the opperations of the state and state only. I realize that the "conservatives" are still very much in control at many levels.

PREDICTIONS...Any predictions for the 7th?

LASTLY, "THE FAMILY STONE"...Have you seen it? Thoughts?

ps--congrats on the Series!

I forgot to mention my friend, Jake (Jake and Erin), and I had a lengthy phone conversation yesterday on the same topic (Christians and politics). He works for Chevron and is planning to move into a position where he can influence their overseas worker policies. We need more people like him.

COUNTRY MUSIC: I'm glad that the Dixie Chicks count, although I'm not sure all people would claim them. I'll try to give the 2 songs you mentioned a listen to sometime though.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD: Ok, so I'm aware that this world in which we live is far from *ideal*. But I'm curious, if you prefer it as an ideology, what has led you to not pursue it in everyday life? Have you come to conclusions based on the Word? If so, what passages? If not, no worries. As I've stated, it's just curiosity as I am in the middle of my own personal search for my position.

I am with you in concern that this world (esp. the like-minded community) is forgetting about that particular nation. Which is why I feel all the more of a responsibility to speak about that which my eyes have seen. The thing that gives me hope is that Dad has loved these people long before we ever knew they existed and I'm confident of His plans and purposes in this land.

As far as the Tal. being "removed," I understand what you are saying and hope I didn't come across as short. I do get frustrated with the words of the media though, which leads a lot of people to believe that they are gone...that the US won in that place...and that we've moved on to I'q. I believe now is a more crucial time than ever for this nation to stand.

TUESDAY: It's hard to say, but my predictions would be this...
Governorship--Dem
House--Dem
Senate--GOP

MOVIES: I have seen "the Family Stone" but it was a while ago and I don't quite remember it. I think I liked it, but don't remember why. Do you have thoughts?

Lastly, thank for the congrats on the Series. FINALLY! Finally I have a life outside of baseball! :)

I’m in a sharing mood, so this may be a long one…

COUNTRY MUSIC…The songs that I recommended fall into the “fun” category. You might also check out JoDee Mesina’s “I’m Alright” and “Bye, Bye”, Toby Keith “How Do You Like Me Now?”, “Who’s Your Daddy?”, and “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”, and anything by Dierks Bentley.

For the more serious side of things, Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow “Picture” (you probably know it), Brad Paisley and Alison Krause “Whisky Lullaby”—which I can only listen to from time-to-time—may hit too close to home, not sure. Finally, Garth’s “Much Too Young”. In those dark hours, this song is perfect.

“Suds in the Bucket” and “How Do You Like Me Now?” are two songs that the videos made me love. I’m sure you can catch glimpses of them somewhere.

Anyway…

PACIFIST IDEOLOGY…Matt 5:9, 5:39, 5:44, 22:39 FOR STARTERS! I would love to sit down one-on-one and have good ol’ Mr Bush read them out loud for me. Rumsfeld will be on campus this week and I’m tempted to go listen just so I can “boo”.

I don’t know of any verses that support my view of a “just war”. I struggled with it for a while, then just decided that I would forever concede the argument to a pacifist, but otherwise support a “just war”—if there is such a thing.

I really don’t care for any type of military action, but if blowing up a power plant here and there along with a couple of bridges can halt an advancing army bent on destruction, then I’m all for it. I think we could have done something like this with Serbia back in the 90s. By attacking key infrastructure or, better yet, threatening to, I believe we can prevent a lot of unnecessary aggression.

Did you hear anything of the US blocking recent UN legislation to cut back on the production of small arms? I only caught the tail end of a news segment. Basically we (the US) were concerned it might infringe on our personal rights as well as hurt the gun manufacturers.

ugh.

A-LAND…Any “shortness” in your previous comments is perfectly understandable. I am concerned myself and I haven’t spent time on the ground (so to speak). Can’t imagine what those of you who have must feel.

Thankfully “Dad” has always loved them, even now.

TUESDAY…GO BLUESTATES! I would love a sweep, but am with you thinking the Dems may only get the House. I had to look at CNN’s website to know anything about the governor races around the country (other than KS).

I do follow politics, and enjoy doing so, but think Tuesday may bring a needed break for me. I tend to devote a lot more time to the subject once every two years.

FAMILY STONE…Ryan and I had watched it recently as it related to a topic the two of us (Ryan and I) had discussed on our way back from Lincoln. (BTW: he now has his keys once again)

There are a number of issues that come up within the movie and I like the fact that the family is completely dysfunctional and out-of-control and yet it works. I knew a family growing up that operated somewhat along those lines and I always loved spending time with them.

LINDSEY IN P-LAND…I happened to note a comment regarding the two of you hoping to touch base. If you haven’t found a way as of yet, I have a dummy e-mail address that I give to people I never intend to see again and wouldn’t mind posting it as a way for the two of you to get in touch. Let me know.

Lastly…K-STATE’S BOWL BOUND!

The Strawberry Blonde said...

Hey Bearded,
Thanks for all the suggestions (i.e. country music) and your thoughts. It's funny because I have plenty of passages to support pacifism but none really to go with the "just war" idea. Are you happy about Rumsfeld? Did you end up hearing him on campus? I hadn't heard of the UN legislation on reducing production of small arms. I can imagine that won't fly well here...except maybe in my hometown. (James S. Brady is from there. Couple that with the "Winningest HS basketball team in the nation" and you've got yourself a celebrity metropolis! Ha!)

So I'm happy with the outcome of the elections. Curious to see how it will all play out over these next 2 years. And I'm also happy for a bit of a break from it all.

FAMILY STONE: I do remember the chaos of the family. And i remember feeling like it was similar to my own. Although...probably a bit more dramatic. There's still something that "works" about it though.

Lindsey: I've been super busy and haven't tried to figure things out. I'll definitely keep that as an option and appreciate your offer. I'll let you know.

And lastly...congrats on K-State!! You must be so proud. :)

To THE Strawberry Blonde,

I was VERY happy with the election results. Rumsfeld's resignation was just the icing on the cake (and no...I did not go to see him).

Now if we could only get Cheney out of office...

I'm excited for your upcoming travels--imagine you are as well. Knowing how precious time can be leading up to a day of departure, I won't expect much in the way of conversation for a while.

I have enjoyed our conversations. Touch base with new topics when you can.

Blessings on the next few weeks and beyond,

The Bearded <><
